Volunteer driven ecological conservation.

At ASVPA's project sites, volunteers from around the world come together to engage in ecological conservation alongside local biologists. We primarily deal with the protection of sea turtles but we also work to keep local beaches clean and provide aid for injured animals such as sloths.

Our Locations

we have project sites located on costa rica's pacific and caribbean coasts

Matapalo, Costa Rica

Our most popular site, Matapalo is our only site located on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. The site is located about 30 kilometers south of Quepos. The beach of Matapalo is less than 100 meters from the site. It is our least isolated location as it is situated directly beside a restaurant and a convenience store. In spite of this, Matapalo is a town of less than a thousand people so it still allows for the same "off the grid" feeling that our other sites provide. There is a surf school and beach horseback riding lessons just down the street from the site. In addition to sea turtles you can expect to see sloths, monkeys, toucans, iguanas, and a variety of beautiful birds.

Pacuare, Costa Rica

Pacuare is the larger of our two Caribbean sites. It is situated on the South Island of the Pacuare River and must be accessed by boat. The island is fairly isolated, with only a few people living there other than the ASVPA volunteers and employees. However, the island does have a small school, grocery store, and coast guard station. The Pacuare site is much more immersed in nature than the Matapalo site.
